Ahmadinejad speech triggers UN walkout
Thursday, 24 September 2009
A number of delegates staged a walk-out during an address to the UN General Assembly last night by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The outspoken politician used the occasion to launch a scathing attack on Israel over its treatment of the Palestinians.
He accused the country of genocide, barbarism and racism.
Mr Ahmadinejad also said some of the Obama administration's policies were not fundamentally different from those of George W Bush.
When he finished, he was given a loud round of applause by many of the delegates who remained in the chamber.
