Edwards endorses Obama campaign for presidency

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Barack Obama has picked up another influential endorsement as he moves ever closer to securing the Democratic nomination for this year's presidential election.

Former North Carolina Senator and 2004 vice-presidential nominee John Edwards has come out in support of Mr Obama as he continues to battle Hillary Clinton for the nomination.

Obama has a significant lead in the race, which is likely to be decided by so-called super-delegates at the Democratic Convention in August unless Mrs Clinton decides to bow out early.

Edwards' endorsement will be a major boost for the Illinois Senator and a sign that Clinton's recent victory in the West Virginia primary has not turned the tables in the marathon battle between the pair.
