Google ordered to divulge YouTube viewing records
Friday, 4 July 2008
A US court has ordered Google to divulge the viewing habits of every Internet user who has ever watched a video on the hugely popular YouTube website.
The ruling was handed down as part of a legal battle between Google and Viacom over alleged copyright infringements.
Viacom, which owns MTV and Paramount Pictures, says it has identified around 160,000 unauthorised clips of its programmes on YouTube.
Following the launch of its billion-dollar lawsuit, YouTube introduced filtering tools in an effort to prevent copyright materials from appearing on the site.
