Man travels 380km in chair rigged with balloons

Sunday, 6 July 2008

In the US, a gas station owner has completed a journey of almost 380 kilometres in a lawn chair rigged with helium-filled balloons.

48-year-old Kent Couch created a sensation in the tiny farming community of Cambridge, Idaho, where he touched down safely following his journey.

He spent about nine hours in the flying machine, which consisted of more than 150 giant party balloons.

He used a ball-bearing gun to help him return to Earth.

It was Mr Couch's third balloon flight; in 2006, he had to parachute out after popping too many balloons.
