Bush planning to visit Middle East in January

US President George W Bush has announced plans to visit the Middle East in early January.
The trip follows the recent agreement by Israeli and Palestinian leaders to begin a fresh round of peace negotiations aimed at finally resolving the conflict in the region.
The agreement was made at a high-profile conference in the US state of Maryland attended by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The first round of negotiations is scheduled for December 12th, but Palestinians say the Israelis are already undermining the move by planning to build new homes in Jerusalem's Arab sector.
