Home-made sub seized on suspected drug run
Thursday, 17 July 2008
The Mexican navy has seized a home-made submarine that was apparently being used to smuggle drugs to the US.
The 30-foot vessel was detecting around 200 miles off the country's Pacific coast while heading northwards.
An undisclosed drug was also found on board.
The Colombian authorities have discovered at least nine similar vessels over the past three years, while last August, US forces intercepted a home-made sub packed with tons of cocaine off the coast of Guatemala.
