Sugar factory workers mount protest at Greencore head office

Published 06/11/2006

Former workers at the recently closed sugar factories in Mallow and Carlow are staging a protest outside Greencore's head office in Dublin today.

The protestors are angry that the company has ignored a Labour Court recommendation which awarded SIPTU and TEEU members improved redundancy terms.

Greencore initially accepted the recommendation for the 150 workers who were made redundant at the Mallow plant, but later reneged on the commitment.

The workers are now calling on the Minister for Agriculture to halt the distribution of EU compensation to Greencore until the company honours the redundancy terms.
