Cheryl Cole has insisted she did not flash her bare left hand at photographers to show husband Ashley their marriage is over.

The 26-year-old Girls Aloud star - who was pictured smiling and holding up her left hand, without her ring, in Paris - insisted she was not sending a message to her cheating husband, from whom she has separated.

Cheryl said in a statement: "I just wanted to clear up the stories about whether I am wearing my wedding ring in my own words as this has been going on for too long and is getting boring."

She continued: "It is not some silly game I am playing. That is not me and not my style.

"There have been many occasions where I have not worn my wedding ring, many of those when I was pictured with Ashley.

"I find it crazy that people would think I use this as some sort of message. Believe it or not Ashley is fully aware of any situation

"He does not need to see a picture of me moving the hair out of my face to explain anything. Please drop it."

The singer was also pictured with a gold band on her wedding finger, but it was not either of the wedding rings given to her by Ashley.

The footballer gave her a £150,000 diamond ring for their wedding in 2006, and bought her a new wedding ring in 2008 after he was accused of cheating.
