GI Joe star Taghmaoui joins Conan

Said Taghmaoui has landed a role in Conan

GI Joe's Said Taghmaoui is to appear in upcoming action movie Conan.

The 36-year-old French/Moroccan actor - who played Breaker in GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra - has signed up to play the leader of a gang of thieves in the new movie adaptation of Conan The Barbarian, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Stephen Lang, who played the evil military man in Avatar, has also joined the cast as the main villain of the movie.

Taghmaoui's character is saved by Conan (Jason Momoa) and later offers him aid.

Lang's character is a ruler in search of a queen whose blood will bring life to the demonic minions of a long-lost god.

Mickey Rourke was apparently in talks to play Conan's father, but those discussions reportedly broke down and the role remains open.

Shooting on the film - directed by Marcus Nispel - is due to begin this week in Bulgaria.

Taghmaoui also appeared in The Kite Runner and had a part in Lost.
