Rapper 'The Game' accused of impersonating police

Published 18/11/2006

The rapper known as The Game was arrested for telling a cabbie in New York he was an undercover police officer and convincing him to drive through a series of red lights.

The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, faces a charge of impersonating a police officer, according to an NYPD spokesman.

The rapper, 26, is accused of picking up the livery cab in Manhattan. The driver drove about 13 blocks before the vehicle was pulled over on Thursday night, shortly after The Game had appeared on Late Show with David Letterman.

A lawyer for The Game said the charges were ``ridiculous''.

``This harassment of The Game and other hip-hop artists by the NYPD has got to stop - and a painful loss at trial may be just the solution,'' attorney Jeffrey Lichtman said.

Lichtman said the cabbie was a terrible driver trying to get out of trouble. He also claimed police were tailing the rapper all night.
