Richard Hammond stable after high-speed car crash

British TV presenter Richard Hammond is in a stable condition in hospital this morning after being critically injured in a car crash yesterday.

The 36-year-old was injured while filming an attempt to break the British land-speed record for the BBC programme Top Gear.

He was driving a 300mph rocket-powered dragster at an airfield near York when it flipped over several times at high speed.

Doctors say his condition showed some improvement overnight, but the exact nature of his injuries are still unknown.
