Sachs: I'd never read Pratchett

Andrew Sachs hadn't read any of Sir Terry Pratchett's books before starring in Going Postal

Andrew Sachs has admitted he'd never read a Terry Pratchett book before taking on a role in the TV adaptation of Going Postal.

The veteran actor said his first taste of the fantasy author's work was when he read Going Postal twice before tackling the show's script, as he normally prefers to read non-fiction.

He confessed: "I'd never read any of Sir Terry's books - once we got Going Postal, I read that twice through before we tackled the script."

But he added: "Would I ever read another book of his again? I probably would."

The Fawlty Towers and Coronation Street actor said his current literary love was the thesaurus, which is helping him write his memoirs.

"My favourite book, if you ever asked me, would be the thesaurus because I make proper use of that ... because I'm working on a writing project now. It's very helpful - I wouldn't be without it," he enthused.

:: Going Postal is on Sky1 on May 30 and 31.
