Stars hit red carpet for Baftas

The stars were on the red carpet tonight for this year's Baftas.

Thousands of fans gathered outside the Royal Opera House in London's Covent

Garden to see the A-listers arrive.

The Queen leads the field with 10 nominations including best film and best

actress for Dame Helen Mirren.

She is up against Dame Judi Dench for Notes On A Scandal, Kate Winslet for

Little Children, Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada and Penelop Cruz for

Volver.

Daniel Craig thrilled fans by posing for mobile phone pictures in a Tom

Cruise-style walkabout.

He is the first Bond to be nominated for best actor with his role in Casino

Royale.

But he refused to discuss his chances of beating Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard

Griffiths, Peter O'Toole and Forest Whitaker to the prize.

"I'm not thinking about it. Well, I'm trying not to,"he said.

Other stars on the red carpet included Thandie Newton, Anne Marie Duff and

husband James McAvoy, Sir Ian McKellen, Emily Blunt and Myleene Klass.
