Thomas Sangster has revealed his dream is to play a 1940s RAF pilot.

The 19-year-old - who plays Samuel Brawne in Bright Star - thinks he could pilot a plane on the big screen.

"I'd like to play a 1940s RAF pilot in the Battle of Britain - I think that'll be great," he said.

"I've got an obsession with flight and flying and that whole period since I was a little kid. I've always loved it and always built little airfix models of Hurricanes. I just have a connection to that whole era and always thought it was very romantic and fantastic."

Another ambition Thomas has is to direct and make his own film.

"One day I'd like to direct and make my own movie, but I'm not quite ready for that yet," he added.

"I've produced a short film a couple of years ago and a friend of mine directed it, and we're shooting a music video for my mum's band, so that should be quite fun."

:: Bright Star is available on DVD now.
