Kaymer falters but claims first tour win in Abu Dhabi

Published 20/01/2008

Martin Kaymer has claimed victory at the Abu Dhabi Championship in the Middle East after leading from the opening round.

The German has finished on 15-under-par, four clear of his nearest challengers despite a disappointing final round.

He bogied three holes in a row on the front nine as he frittered away his lead, but birdied the final par five.

It was also a respectable final day for the Irish in the field.

Paul McGinley got his first top-ten finish in a year, ending on eight-under.

Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy both enjoyed rounds of 68 for seven-under.

Peter Lawrie finished six-under-par.
