Former player Gerry McCarthy appointed new Cork boss

Former Cork star Gerry McCarthy has been appointed as the county's new senior hurling manager.

The five-times All-Ireland winner, who has previously acted as selector, was confirmed as John Allen's successor at a specially convened county board meeting last night.

He is expected to complete the formation of his backroom team over the next few weeks.
