Chelsea beat Wigan to take the top spot

Chelsea have returned to the top of the Premier League after a one-nil win at Wigan.

New signing Deco scored the game's only goal with an early free-kick.

Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was relieved to see his team come through what he thought was a difficult test with three points.

``The result was more important than how we played,'' he said.

``It is difficult to play here against Wigan.

``They have a good squad and good organisation. They are athletic and they have

power.''

Wigan manager Steve Bruce was disappointed not to have taken at least a point

out of the match.

``We thought we deserved something out of it.

``Apart from the goal, which was a wonder strike from Deco, after that they

haven't really done that much against us," said Bruce.

``You can see why Deco has played at the highest level, he has that little bit

of extra quality.''
