Dario Silva seriously injured in car crash in Uruguay

Published 25/09/2006

Former Portsmouth striker Dario Silva has undergone emergency surgery after being injured in a car crash in Uruguay over the weekend.

The 33-year-old was driving his car in Montevideo when he lost control and hit a column of street lights.

He has suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull and an exposed fracture of his right leg.

Doctors say he has been placed in a medically induced coma and they are particularly worried about what they say is a "very serious" leg injury.

Silva is currently without a club after leaving Portsmouth in February.
