Ferguson celebrates 20 years as Man United manager

It was twenty years ago this week that Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed Manchester United manager.

He turned the sleeping giants into what is now regarded as the biggest club in the world.

At the time, United defender Paul McGrath was an icon to fans but was troubled by a drink and drug problem.

He was quickly turfed out of the club by strict disciplinarian Ferguson.

But McGrath said Fergie is one of the true greats.

He said "He'll be remembered as the greatest manager this country has ever seen or many other countries have ever seen.

(Manchester United) has grown astronomically and that's credit to Alex Ferguson€..I wouldn't hear a bad word sad about him now."
