Three Premiership sides dumped out of Carling Cup

Three Premiership sides have been dumped out of the Carling Cup after losing their second-round ties last night.

Manchester City lost 2-1 to League One side Chesterfield, while League Two leaders Wycombe beat Fulham by the same margin and Middlesbrough went down 1-0 to Nottingham County.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa beat Scunthorpe 2-1 thanks to two goals from Juan Pablo Angel, while Doncaster beat Derby County on penalties in the other game of the night.

In Scotland, meanwhile, Rangers had no trouble beating Dunfermline 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the CIS Insurance Cup.
