Trapp gives players the day off

The Republic of Ireland players are getting the afternoon off after last night's 1 - 1 draw against Bulgaria at Croke Park.

Giovanni Trapattoni is holding an early training session in Malahide at the moment after releasing the squad for the rest of the day ahead of the trip to play Italy in Bari.

Richard Dunne gave the boys in green an ideal start, scoring with a header just 35 seconds into the game

But an own-goal from Ireland defender Kevin Kilbane after 73 minutes sealed a deserved point for Bulgaria

The result leaves them trailing the Italians in their World Cup qualifying group after the World Champions bagged a 2 - 0 win over Montenegro.

Captain Robbie Keane is adamant the draw wasn't a bad result.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland are top of their World Cup qualifying group after an impressive 3-2 win over Poland at Windsor Park.

Manager Nigel Worthington said he wants more of the same against Slovenia.
