Villa's Laursen may face further absence with knee injury

Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen could be facing another lengthy absence after picking up a knee injury against Chelsea in the Carling Cup last night.

The Danish international left Stamford Bridge on crutches after suffering suspected ligament damage.

He is due to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage and manager Martin O'Neill says he is hoping the injury is not too serious.

Laursen has only played a handful of games since joining Villa in 2004 after being sidelined by a previous knee injury that had threatened the future of his career.
