West Ham favourites to get Faubert's signature

Bordeaux have confirmed a deal to take midfielder Julien Faubert to West Ham is very close to being finalised.

Initially courted by Rangers, Faubert now looks set to be presented as a Hammers player.

Asked to confirm reports that a deal had been struck, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud told PA Sport: "It's true that we have very advanced contacts with West Ham but there are still some formalities to tie up."

"The medical still has to take place and the player has to reach terms with the club. However, I am more or less in agreement with West Ham and any further communication on the matter will now have to come from them."

The 23-year-old France international midfielder was the subject of a reported €4million stg bid from Rangers last week, an offer Triaud rejected.

Bordeaux's new coach Laurent Blanc had wanted to keep Faubert but West Ham now look to have prised him away from Les Girondins.
