A hundred Gardai took part in the Paris Marathon on Sunday to raise money for the charity Goal.
The officers - who are mostly from the Special Detective Unit based at Harcourt Square in Dublin - raised more than 100 thousand euro.
The money will be used to build schools for hundreds of children in Calcutta.
Detective Anthony Malone said "we were inundated with calls from guards all over the country who were interested ... the amount of people looking to take part was phenomenal."
