90 percent reduction in salmon caught in commercial fishing

Published 01/01/2008 | 18:57

There has been a 90 percent reduction in the number of salmon caught in commercial fishing.

It follows the introduction of new conservation measures last year.

Four million euros in additional funding has been announced to reinforce protection efforts by the fisheries board.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan says the figures reflect that good environmental planning does work.
