Alcohol industry in new campaign to promote safe drinking

The drinks industry is launching a €1.75m campaign today to promote a more responsible approach to alcohol consumption.

The initiative involves new advertisements promoting responsible drinking and a website that contains advice on safe levels of drinking,

The site also allows people to assess how many units of alcohol they drink every week and if their consumption levels are regarded as hazardous.

The campaign is being set up by MEAS (Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society), a group set up by the drinks industry in response to growing calls for a ban on alcohol advertising and sponsorship.
