All pre-school staff to face garda vetting from next year

Published 09/10/2006

All staff, students and volunteers working in creches and other pre-school facilities will reportedly be required to undergo garda vetting from the start of next year.

Reports this morning say the move is one of a number of measures in revised childcare regulations due to be announced by Children's Minister Brian Lenihan today.

The regulations will cover all pre-school centres that look after three or more children.

This morning's reports say such centres will also have to check employment references for new staff and get references from "reputable sources" for all students and volunteers.
