Cowen slams Rabbitte's 'Pauline conversion' on tax

Fianna Fail minister Brian Cowen has claimed that Labour has lost the argument on taxation.

Reacting to Pat Rabittes's keynote address last night, the Minister for Finance, described the party's promise to cut the standard rate of tax as an incredible Road to Damascus conversion.

Minister Cowen said it was simply not credible that labour would implement a policy approach they have opposed so strongly over the past ten years.

He says people will see through this 'election ploy': "I think people aren't going to be fooled by this 'Pauline Conversion' on the road to nowhere that the Labour Party are going on at the moment under his leadership. I think this is more about getting the Labour Party off 11% in the polls than it is about lowering taxes, to be honest."
