Fine Gael is launching a series of national public meetings this week as part of their "Vote Yes" campaign for the Lisbon Treaty.
Ireland is the only EU member state to hold a referendum on the EU Reform Treaty this summer.
A total of 30 meetings will take place this Thursday, beginning in Dublin.
Fine Gael MEP Gay Mitchell has assured voters that claims by anti-EU campaigners that a "Yes" vote will mean Ireland has to join an single European defence force are wrong.
