Health Minister Mary Harney has hinted that she is preparing a significant package of measures to improve health services for people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Ms Harney is remaining tight-lipped on the details, but speaking at a seminar in Dublin today to mark World Alzheimer's Day, she said she was committed to focusing resources on home-based care.
The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, meanwhile, is using the occasion to highlight the discrimination, exclusion and prejudice faced by sufferers.
