Taoiseach to make direct contact with Sargent over coalition

The Taoiseach is expected to make direct contact with the Green Party leader in an effort to re-start talks on the formation of a new Government.

Writing in today's Sunday Independent, Bertie Ahern said there was much common ground between the two parties, despite the breakdown of negotiations last week.

He said further discussions were needed, and that he was planning face-to-face talks with the Green Party leader.

Meanwhile, Fianna F€il is continuing talks with the Progressive Democrats and a number of Independent TDs.

The Taoiseach said that he had a very positive meeting with PD leader Mary Harney this weekend.
