Builder jailed for 10 months for sexual assault

Published 21/07/2009

A builder has been jailed for 10 months for sexually assaulting a woman at a party after taking cocaine and large amounts of alcohol.

29-year-old Graham Lawlor of Loughlinstown Wood, Shankhill in Dublin had pleaded not guilty to the assault on February 3rd 2007, but was convicted by a jury in May.

The court heard the then 23-year-old woman had gone asleep upstairs at a house party in Sandyford and woke up to find Lawlor sexually assaulting her.

Judge Martin Nolan said if the accused had not elected for a trial and put the victim through the trauma of cross examination he might have not sent him to prison.
