Businessman jailed for ten years for rape of tourist

A north Dublin businessman has been jailed for ten years for raping a tourist in a Killarney hotel in June 2005.

39-year-old Philip McGrane of Moonlone Lane, The Naul was found guilty earlier this year of what was described as a "savage attack".

Mr Justice Paul Carney said the crime merited a 15 year sentence, but he had to take into account no previous convictions when sentencing.

Philip McGrane denied the charges of rape and sexual assault.
