Charities join forces to get commitment on tackling homelessness

An alliance of Irish charities is seeking a meeting with the new Minister for the Environment John Gormley to discuss the government's commitment to end homelessness.

The "MakeRoom" Alliance is expressing concern at the lack of specific targets in the new programme for government.

"MakeRoom" wants to end homelessness by 2010.

It says there is now a real need for more specific commitments in the areas of housing provision and measures to tackle and prevent homelessness.
