Published 23/07/2007

A County Clare woman who has admitted attempting to murder her husband and three young children at a house in Shannon on the 25th of September 2005 is due to be sentenced today.

Twenty eight year old Agnes O'Shaughnessy of Purcell Park in Shannon pleaded guilty earlier this year to attempting to murder her husband George.

She also pleaded guilty to attempting to murder three young children on the same date.

The court heard she admitted setting fire to the house in Shannon but told Gardai she couldn't remember carrying out the act.

Her defence team have informed the court that Mrs O'Shaughnessy has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and is on medication.
