Croagh Patrick climbers warned of accidents

Published 25/07/2009

The Mayo Mountain Rescue Team is appealing to pilgrims to properly prepare for the Croagh Patrick climb on Reek Sunday tomorrow.

Anyone thinking of climbing the mountain is being advised to wear boots, proper rain gear, multiple layers of clothing and to carry a walking stick.

Spokesperson Dick Carnedy said people should also show due regard for others on the day,

"It's very heavy with traffic and some people rush and push and that causes a lot of accidents. So if you're rushing down you can bump into other people and accidents happen that way."
