Enterprise Minister criticises FG over SPOC complaint against Taoiseach

Enterprise Minister Miche€l Martin has launched an attack on Fine Gael, accusing it of operating in an overtly partisan manner.

The Minister was reacting to the party's decision to lodge a formal complaint against the Taoiseach with the Standards in Public Office Commission.

It has asked the body to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bertie Ahern's declaration of tax compliance after the 2002 election.

Fine Gael has said the move was necessary to ensure there is adherence to ethics in public office.

Minister Martin has hit back in defence of the Taoiseach, describing the move as a political tactic by Fine Gael.

The Minister has also said he, 'always worries when complaints were made in an overtly party political context, being done for naked political reasons'.
