Ex-Greencore workers protest outside Mallow factory over redundancy

Published 23/09/2006

Former employees of the Greencore sugar factory in Mallow have taken part in the protest about the non-payment of redundancy packages by the company.

The factory closed its gates in May last year but some ex-workers are still waiting for compensation.

Workers and unions claim that Greencore was only willing pay them the same redundancy amount in 2006 as workers who had left the factory two years previously.

The matter went in front of the Labour Court, which issued recommendations.

However, these interpreted differently by both sides.

The workers have refused the redundancy offered by Greencore opting instead to wait fort eh full amount to which they claim they are legally entitled.
