Family of man found in landfill appeals for investigation

The family of a man found dead in a landfill site in the North are appealing for a full investigation into what happened.

David Leyland, a supervisor at the Biffa Waste site in Mallusk, Co Antrim, was found dead on Friday night, after he was reported missing.

The alarm was raised on Thursday when 23-year-old David Leyland failed to clock off work for the day.

He was last seen near machinery on the landfill site, which was flooded following heavy downpours last week.

Questions are now being raised about safety on the site - it is understood conditions were treacherous, and it is now being suggested that site should have been closed for the day.

The Leyland family are calling for a full investigation to find out what really happened.

David's brother Ken says he wants the company to make sure that this kind of tragedy never happens again.
