Family of woman left in vegetative state after surgery settles for €580,000

The family of a Galway woman who died earlier this year having spent three years in a semi-vegetative state has received €580,000 in a settlement with The Galway Clinic at the High Court this afternoon.

42-year-old Saundra O'Connor from Claregalway went into the clinic for a routine procedure, but an infection developed, she had a heart attack and was left brain damaged.

Her husband Martin took the case against consultant gynaecologist Andrea Herman and the Galway Clinic, Doughiska.
