Fatality in Offaly following suspected hit and run

A man in his 30's is dead following a suspected hit and run in County Offaly in the early hours of this morning.

He is the third person to lose his life on Irish roads in less than 24 hours.

At about 4.40 this morning a man in his 30's was found on the roadside at Cappincur, near Tullamore.

He was taken by ambulance to Tullamore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai say they're treating the incident as a suspected hit and run, and have sealed off the scene pending a technical examination.

Diversions are in place in the area.

Meanwhile a man in his 20's is dead after a road crash in County Dublin last night.

The car he was driving struck a pole on the M11 at Shankill at about nine o'clock.

And in the north Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian in County Armagh.

The man died after being hit by a car on the Derrytrasna Road near Lurgan, just before midnight.
