Faulty gene linked to half of all breast cancer cases

Scientists have discovered that a faulty gene is linked to more than half of all cases of breast cancer.

According to researchers at Cambridge University, the gene is also thought to be implicated in half of bowel and prostate cancers.

Cancer charities have described it as a "major step forward" and possibly the most important development in cancer gene research in the last 20 years.
