Five in court over Mountjoy smuggling racket

Five men including a prison officer, arrested in connection with a contraband smuggling racket in Mountjoy, have appeared in court.

Prison officer 36-year-old Dillon O'Brien from Charnwood Meadows , Clonsilla, Dublin 15, faces 14 charges including that he conspired to supply cocaine and diamorphine in the prison last year.

Four other men also appeared this afternoon on a number of charges including that one of them conspired with the prison officer to bring in the diamorphine.

30-year-old Sean Hinchon from Clondakin is charged with conspiring with the prison officer to bring in the controlled drug between January 2005 and March 2007 and smuggling in a mobile phone.

Thomas Hinchon from Clondalkin is also charged with conspiring with Dillon O'Brien to bring in diamorphine and smuggling in a phone.

27-year-old Paul Dixon from Finglas is charged with possessing ecstasy, cannabis resin and cocaine at cell 26, landing B3 in Mountjoy in March of last year.

32-year-old Nigel Curran from Blanchardstown was charged with stealing from United Drug Pharmaceuticals in February and March of last year.

All four were remanded on bail to appear again on July 29th.
