Four arrested after attempted burglary in Cork

Four men have been arrested in Cork following an attempted armed burglary this morning.

The gang, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, broke into flats in Mary Street in the city centre at about five o'clock this morning.

Gardai arrived at the scene after being alerted by neighbours who heard breaking glass and shouting.

The gang fled the scene but were apprehended by Gardai a short distance away.

A number of other weapons were discovered in follow up searches.

The men are all aged in their 20's and 30's and are being detained at Anglesea Street and the Bridewell Garda Stations.
