Four million euro in extra funding for salmon conservation

Four million euro in additional funding has been announced to reinforce the protection of salmon stocks.

The allocation will support stock conservation and management by the fisheries board.

Since their introduction last year, new conservation measures have resulted in a 90% reduction in salmon caught by commercial fishing.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan has described the salmon as a good barometer for the condition of the environment in general:
