Friend of Terence Wheelock given suspended sentence for car theft

A man whose friend died in Garda custody last year has been given a suspended sentence for stealing a car.

Twenty year old Noel Hudson has pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to unlawfully taking the car.

His friend Terence Wheelock, also aged twenty, was arrested for the same offence but died later at Store Street Garda Station.

Noel Hudson, of Se€n O'Casey Avenue in Dublin's north inner city, and his friend Terence Wheelock of Summerhill in Dublin were both arrested on suspicion of stealing a car in June 2005.

Mr Wheelock was found unconscious in a cell at Store Street Garda Station after he apparently tried to hang himself with his tracksuit cord.

He was brought to hospital but died on September 16th, 2005.

His friend Noel Hudson, who has sixty previous convictions, has pleaded guilty to unlawfully taking a car.

He's been given a twelve month suspended sentence on condition that he keeps the peace for two years.
