Gardai appeal for information on Longford death

Published 04/03/2007

Gardai in Longford have appealed for the public's help in identifying a woman who was found dead in the town early this morning.

A post mortem on the woman's body is being carried out this evening.

Gardai have said that they are treating the death as suspicious.

The body of the young woman was discovered just before half past eight this morning by a passer by, at the back of a building on Kilashee Street in Longford town.

The area was sealed off, and following a preliminary investigation the body was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, where a post mortem is being carried out by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.

Gardai want information on the woman's identity - she's described as being of small build with short brown hair, and is believed to be in her late teens or early twenties.

She was wearing a navy "L.A. Gear" tracksuit top and bottom.

Gardai are also asking anyone who was in the Killashee Street / St Bridget's Terrace area of the town between 6 yesterday evening and 8.50 this morning to come forward.
