Gardai investigate drive-by shooting in Portarlington

Published 01/07/2007

Gardai in County Laois are investigating a drive-by shooting in Portarlington last night.

The incident took place outside the East End Hotel on Main Street at 11.25pm.

According to the Gardai, it is believed that at least two shots were fired from a car as it drove past the hotel.

Some time later a 2005 Dublin registered, blue Audi A3 was discovered on fire on the Dublin side of the town.

The car had been stolen earlier this month in Maynooth, County Kildare.

Both areas are being preserved for technical examinations.

Gardai have said that their investigation is on-going.
