Govt to study why so many prison officers get hurt at work
The Government is reportedly planning to carry out a study into why so many prison officers suffer injuries at work.
Reports this morning say the study has been promised by Finance Minister Brian Cowen in a written reply to the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
The committee has reportedly been told by the Prison Service that an average of almost 24 days are being lost in sick leave for every prison officer in the country.
The highest levels of absenteeism are apparently in Cork, Limerick and Portlaoise prisons.
