Helicopter crashes into Bettystown hotel

A helicopter has crashed in Co. Meath. The aircraft collided with the old Neptune Hotel in Bettystown shortly before 5pm.

Eyewitness reports suggested the helicopter had been attempting to take off from Bettystown beach, but failed and crashed into the front of the building.

The hotel is being used as a temporary secondary school, but it's understood that all the children had gone home for the day.

Gardaí, fire brigade and ambulance personnel arrived quickly at the scene, along with inspectors from the Air Accident Investigation Unit.

Early reports suggested the pilot was the only man on board the aircraft, and that he escaped from the incident unharmed.
